It has been quiet for a while, but here's a small update to let you know that things have been going on.
The design/direction team (SSH, big brother and myself) have been considering the two concepts that were proposed; SSH's "Awakening of the Sphinx" design, and my pitch for a game about a travelling group of adventurers. We agreed to try and combine elements of each idea, to come up with a concept that we will all own and which we're all enthusiastic about.
SSH hasn't been in touch for a while, but big brother and I had a chat today and made sure we see eye to eye on many of the immediate issues.
We're aiming for a game with an episodic design, somewhat like a TV show or a comic book. There will be some kind of overall story running through all episodes, but each episode should also have a self-contained narrative. Different episodes will mostly be set in different, somewhat distant locations. We will work with the writers to come up with the stories (and to make sure that the overall story is being respected), and the writers will then fill in the details. The overall story will probably be quite open-ended, to accommodate an unknown number of episodes.
At least one of the initial episodes will have an "imaginary Egypt" setting, which will take elements of Ancient Egypt and transplant them to a more modern setting. I sum it up as "Pharaohs with cell phones," but exactly which modern elements will be included hasn't been decided (it could be nineteenth-century steampunk, twenties art deco, forties modernism or futuristic techno-fantasy, or a mixture of all). It is more important that it is imaginative and stylish than totally realistic.
With SSH's permission, we will use key elements of the design for "Awakening of the Sphinx," adapted to fit this somewhat different setting and the episodic format. We may also use some parts of the "Adventurous Game Proposal" I suggested, as appropriate.
We've also talked about art style, storytelling techniques, and other game design issues. It's still very early, but I can tell you that big brother has some cool ideas.
The design/direction team will get together soon to brainstorm and iron out more details, and will then go off and do a first draft of (portions of) the design document.
Your comments, feedback, input and creativity would be much appreciated. We're in the process of committing to a specific direction for the design, so if you have an awesome idea that we should take into account, now is your time to let us know about it!

Wooh. This thread got me thinking creatively about the game again because all this silence kind of killed it. There are many smaller ideas I believe we all have, but i will share some of the more "cuter". It will have to wait a little bit, tho'. About the IM, sorry, but I guess I was reading it and something interrupted me so I had to leave.
